The Castaway

Just had a wonderfully brunch at The Castway in the Burbank hills. The castaway is located at 1250 Harvard road Burbank CA. The champagne brunch is reminiscent of Shanghai reds in the Marina although I prefer the selection at Shanghai over castaway. Neverless I was still stuffed of crab waffles Korean BBQ and salad and fruit lol. Over all the view made up for the minutes selection.  I give castaway 8 relish stars.

CAFE MUSE

I recently went to CAFE MUSE ( 6547 Santa Monica Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90038) after a rehearsal at the Blank Theater during a lunch break. So happy I stumbled into this quaint little vegetarian establishment. I ordered a veggie burger and sweet potatoe fries. Can you say mmmmmmmmm. So much flavor packed into that burger considering I am a meat conisore.  Everyone was telling me I had to order the sweet potatoe fries and after I cleaned my plate I see why. I havent been to may begatarian spots but Cafe Muse is on the top of my list if I am ever in a vegetarian or vegan mood lol. They also have open mic nights on Sunday for those who have original music and need a new ear to hear your stuff.

So I made a wonderful dish of homemade mac and cheese, which happens to be my favorite food of all times. Thought I would share my recipe see how It goes for you my readers.  Tell me if you tryws it at home for yourself or if you have an even better recipe. I used the smaller macaroni noodles boiled water then threw them in for a couple of minutes until they were tender. Graded a whole block of sharp chedder cheese. In a mixing bowl I put cooked noodles half of the cheese a bit of milk (some people use cream) butter and 2 beat eggs. Then I I poured of that into baking pot covered layer with cheese pepper and salt then repeated that with more layers until pot was full covered and cooked in pre heated oven on 350 for 45 minutes.

Didn't quite taste like my grandmas but I'm getting there :)

Sometimes You Should Treat Yourself To A HomeCooked Meal

Sometimes you just need a good home cooked meal. I love to cook so I got inspired tonight to mix a few spices together to tickle my pallet. I started my seasoning my pork chop overnight with garlic salt pepper thyme basil. I smeared butter all over a yam and put that in the oven first because I knew that would take the longest. Then on top of the stove I chopped some mushrooms and onions put It in the skillet with a little oil and red wine vinegar. When those were finished I added fresh asparagus and some tomato paste. I then smeared some black pepper sauce on the pork chops and broiled them for 5 min on each side. I took some canned corn and put cinnamon and sugar and nutmeg on top of the stove. When the pork chop was done so was everything else. Bon appetité. Considering the fact that my moms plate was spotless at the end if dinner I give my homemade creation 10 delish stars.

Italiano at Drago Centro

pasta frescaImage by 7-how-7 via Flickr
Omg the freshest pasta I have ever tasted. It literally tasted like some italian grandmother was making fresh pasta and sauces.  We went to drago by default we were heading to botega louie for my friends 30th birthday. The wait was too long so headed to drago cause the birthday girl still wanted italian. I had seafood pasta there was crab and what looked like linguini topped with a cream sauce. Others had butternut squash ravioli and a thick flat noodle rolled with pork suasage grounded over with a savory flavored sauce. Drago was def. a more upscale restaurant so be prepared to dish out some money. I give drago centro 10 delish stars.

Nothing Like BOSSA NOVA

Brazilian Food that tantalizes the taste buds.  BOSSA NOVA has been around since the 90's and to this day is still popular to locals and celebs alike.  There are three locations that I know of but the spot I always find myself at is 7181 Sunset Blvd. 90046.  Not only does Bossa Nova have great food but it stays open until 4am.  Who says you cant great food in LA after 2am lol.  I usually get the garlic chicken with black beans and rice with plantain and a tropical punch that they have.  Between appetizers and meals the price ranges from $7.00 - $30.00  They just added a happy hour so I'm sure there will be even better prices for great
dining.  Bossa Nova is open 7 days a week from 11am- 4am. I give it 10 delish stars!

Dukes in Malibu

I recently was out in Malibu singing at a wedding on the beach that was beautiful.  After the gig all of us singers were hungry of course and decided to go to Dukes 21150 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. They say celebrate the Aloha Spirit on the water edge at Dukes.  Fun Fact about Duke Kahanamoku is that he is Hawaii most famous citizen and King of international surfing.
We stayed in the barefoot bar to eat and let me tell you best bar food I have ever tasted. We heard on Fridays they even have Hawaiian Dancers. You can have burgers with mango sauce to calamari with guava sauce to coconut crusted shrimp to waffle fries and yam fries and nachos big enough for three people to share we were very satisfied to say the least.  Not to mention the amazing view of huge waves crashing on the rocks outside the huge windows.  The prices range from $6 to $14. If you dine in the regular dining area the prices are in the $20-$30 bracket. Whatever your budget is you will dine sufficiently.  I give Dukes  9 delish stars.

Cheesecake Factory

The Luau salad at cheesecake factory plays with your pallate in a way that is exillirating.  Leafy greens with tossed scallions, carrots, avacado, mango salsa  in between two layers of a crispy wanton square.  The sweet mixed with the tangy is great and even though the plate looks massive its still light so I was full but not in that thanksgiving open your pants way.  I went to the cheesecake factory in marina del rey, smaller than most and always busy. Lots on the menu so go there with a taste for something or you will get lost with what to get lol. I give it 9 delish stars.

Lets Get Cultural at Merkato

Steamy lunchImage by marymactavish via Flickr
So I had my first Ethiopian meal during my days in undergrad at UC Santa Cruz.  I have been in love with Ethiopian food ever since.  For those who don't know Fairfax between Pico and San Vicente is Little Ethiopia.  My fav spot is Merkato found at 1036 1/2 Fairfax Ave. La Ca 90019.  The spot has a cozy atmosphere. There is also a bar and store connected where you can buy different spices and items to make your own dishes at home. I love the veggie combination with the grilled fish.  Its a whole fish though so you should def have an eating partner. I give it 10 delish stars all day every day.

Biscuts From The Coffee Company

OK so you need to go get breakfast from The Coffee Company. You can find this cute little cafe on LaTijera near Manchester. Just about every sunday a few of my friends along with my mom and her friends go to Coffee Company.  There is always a line around the corner if you dont get there at the right time, which im not going to tell you so that time doesnt get busy lol.  We even have a special table by the window that the  hostess always seats up at.  My favorite is the homemade buttermilk biscuits. Some other favorites are the vegetarian sausage and the spicy chicken sausage. A great pallat pleased for a Sunday afternoon actress church. I give it 9 relish stars.

Serving Spoon.... Those who know, know

Chicken and wafflesImage by Salim Virji via Flickr
Have you ever been to The Serving Spoon???  If the answer is no what are you waiting for? I have been going to this downhome soul food spot on Centinela between Labrea and La Cienga for years, like since the 90's.  If you want to go "where everybody knows your name" Serving spoon is the place to go.  The church folk come out on sunday though so if you are the kind of person who hate lines go in the middle of the week but they close at 3pm so a lunch getaway might be the ideal time.  If you get the Jerry's Special which is one waffle and chicken wing drummettes you will never want Roscoes again. I give Serving Spoon 10 delish stars all day everyday.

The best wings in town right now

Ok so I used to think Hot Wings LA had the best wings. WRONG. KyoChon has the most scrumptious wings ever.  I had the signature wings and the spicy honey wings and potato wedge fries.  Let me tell you that spice is like no other make sure you have a tall glass of water.  For an appetizer I had broccoli salad with sunflower seeds that was really light and tasty.  It seemed to take the food forever to get there but that was because I was hungry. But let me tell you it was worth the wait. You can order online as well if you want to just pick your wings up and go.  There are many locations in Los Angeles and New York. But the quaint little spot I stumbled on was in the mid Wilshire district 3833 west 6th street Los Angeles, ca 90026.  I give it 10 delish stars

Visit a cafe in Los Feliz

I just love Los Feliz for a cute cafe experience on a Sunday.  Just finished brunch with friends at Fred 62 located on Vermont near Hollywood Blvd. . As I was walking to our table my mouth started watering as I looked at eveyones place.  Besides our waitress with the funky attitude the food was great.  I got a pancake that was amazing, egg whites of course and chicken sausage that had so much flavor I wanted to go slap the cook for a job well done. It taste like heaven. I would give it 9 delish stars but because of the waitress I give it 8. Its about the whole experience people train your wait staff.

Im pretty sure most Angelenoes know about Sunday Brunch at Shanghai Reds in the marina.  All you can eat goodness with free flowing champagne what more can you ask for.  My fav is the omelet bar and the "Waffle Bar".  The best belgian waffle in town let me tell you, especially if you drench it in their fresh strawberry sauce and top it off with whipped cream.  A M A Z I N G.  Not to mention the wonderful waterfront view where you can soak in the sun and watch the yachts sail by as you sip your mamosa and enjoy the singing waiter if you are seated outside (those who know, know lol)..  For those who have not been to Shanghai what are you waiting on. Wonderful Egg White Experience at Basix Cafe

So I usually dont eat egg whites.  Something about not seeing the yoak makes me think Im not really eating an egg lol.  But Basix Cafe changed all of that for me.  Today for brunch I had egg whites with spinach and grilled chicken a side of fruit an english muffin and blood orange mimosa.  I didnt know egg whites could have so much flavor.  Since there is less cholestoral anyway I think might take the yoke out of my breakfast permantely. My friend got a bannana pancake with grilled chicken and whatelse egg whites lol. My other firend got a margherita pizza and all three of our plates were empty by the end of brunch.  My friends usually say Im a bird eater but let me tell you I finished my plate today.  Basix Cafe is a quaint little cafe that serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner located at 8333 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood. Basix is open from 7am to 11pm.  I give it 9 delish stars!

Bottega Louie Makes Me Miss New York

Although Bottega Louie is not new to Downtown Los Angeles anymore, I just stumbled onto the spot a few months ago. You can find this spot at 700 Grand Avenue Los Angeles Ca 90017. Let me tell you if you want gourmet food for reasonable prices this is the spot for you. The spot reminds me of a swanky place I might visit in New York's meat packing district. It has a restaurant, a gourmet market, a patisserie and a bar- what more can you ask for in a food establishment. Can you tell I'm excited. You can eat at Bottega Louie monday- friday from 10:30am - 11pm, they're also open on the weekends but the hours are different. My Fav is the Napoli Pizza and all the salads are to die for. Wonderful Decour, Great Food and Reasonable Prices. I give it 10 Delish Stars.
